  • The Resting State (HR 72): “At rest, your body wants to be a fat-burning machine. As you can see, over 78% of your energy comes from fat. This is our natural, default state.” But as you can see… here you burn just 1.4 kcal/min. Not too much. 

  • The “Fat Burning Zone” (HR 127-138): “This is the ‘sweet spot’ for sustainable fat loss. At this moderate intensity—a brisk walk or a light jog—your body is burning the maximum amount of fat for fuel. We call this Zone 2 training.” Here you burn just 11.5 kcal/min to 13.4 kcal/min.

  • The “Sugar Burning Zone” (HR 144+): “During high-intensity exercise, your body panics and switches to its ’emergency fuel’—sugar. This is powerful for performance, but if you live your life here (fueled by stress and sugar), you are in a constant state of inefficient energy crisis.”

  • The Master Insight: “A metabolically healthy person can stay in the ‘fat-burning’ state for longer, even at higher heart rates. A ‘sugar-addicted’ person switches to the ‘sugar-burning’ state very quickly. The goal of my work is to make you so metabolically flexible that you become a fat-burning machine across a wider range of activities.
